Helen / Tower 1 Couloir & Tower Ridge / 1980

Best described as Type 2 minus fun. Great day, long day, complicated descent, basecamp in tatters shredded by wind. Tough day for Mary, but she gutted it out. Wind up on Tower Ridge was stout. We did not have headlamps for the descent which did however benefit from time to time from a full moon. We got back to camp at 1am to find the tent broken and gear all over the place. The dogs were freaked out. The next night a killer thunderstorm ripped thru the basin. We spent most of the night holding onto the tent as the broken poles from the day before weren't much use in the monster winds that came tearing down the valley. The next day we started the 2 day walk out under calm clear skies.
