I don't think Alain was as ambitious as I was on this trip. As a result we slowly devolved into doing shorter and shorter routes. The South Face of the Midi while short was well worth our time and after a casual start we barely made it off the route to catch the last ride down to town. These days it's rated 10a. Not sure how much aid we did back then but there must have been some as we did the route in mountain boots.
